Well gents, I went to do some work on my 77 door which required removing the interior pannels. I found these white plastic clips that pull out of the hole in the panel. The heads on these "clips" can't be put back into the panel. these clips have a large round head on both sides of the plastic hole in the panel. I only pulled one of the bottom half clips out and decided that it would be the better part of valor to wait until I can find out just how these little boogers are supposed to be removed and replaced. Anyone have any input on these clips? Are new ones available when I break the things getting the panel off?

You can buy a tool for removing them. Basically you'll ruin them while removing them doesn't matter what you use. Good news is they sell those just about everywhere. They are ment to be used one time and replaced when they are removed.

There is a tool that looks like a small tonged meat fork you can buy for a few bucks that helps seperate the panel from the door frame.

Actually, if you use the door panel remover tool correctly, you should be able to pop the white plastic retainers out without breaking them. This tool is widely available at most auto parts stores for under $10.00. Original Parts Group has it listed at $9.95 on page 311 of their catalogue.

These fasteners can easily be reinstalled if they come off your door panel in the following manner: Find the split groove in the wide head of the fastener and slip that part into the correct hole on the panel and then turn it until the entire head goes behind the panel and locks itself into place. It is held into the mounting holes in your door frame by friction from several flexible threads on the shaft that will flex when you apply even pressure with the proper tool. If removed this way, you will probably not damage them at all. If you do, the plastic fasteners are still available at any junk yard or from your local Chevy dealer.
