Called a local carb shop and they guy said it is about $45 for tuning a carb on the car. he said they do something like putting a sensor in the tailpipe and the get the air/fuel mixture correct. is that a good price and also once they get the fuel air mixutre correct does that mean you get max fuel economy and max power?

P.S. the carb is running good but i think it might need some fine tuning

The only carb shop I'd go to is Ernie's carburetor shop on Santa Anita right off the 60 FWY. He Charges the same I think to tune a carb and set the timeing. Me and my cousin been there a few times, they know there stuff. Lot's of people recommend them including me.

Sounds like you've been messing with that carb fo a while now?

It's a good price. Shop rates are any where from 80 to 120 dollars an hour. So it appears he's only charging a half hour labor time, Considering time, equipment and the all important knowledge, YEAH, I'd say it's fair. Compare it to the time you have already spent on it trying to do it. Now what are your thoughts Brother? Is it worth it?:poke:

Depends on how much tuning they do. The best way is to install an O2 sensor in the exhaust. Hook up a wide band and tune it off that. You can tune idle mixture, primary mixture and secondary mixture. All three are on different circuits. So in order to get all three tunes to max HP on the secondary, max MPG on the primary, the carb will probably need to be taken apart and jets/metering rods changed out. Will probably cost you more then $45.00. Save your money for now and stash it away for an HEI and get rid of those points.

My answer is based on the Mechanic Tunning your Carb to it's BEST POTENTIAL, for it's present condition. Not REBUILDING the Carb. re-jetting or changing Metering Rods. As Tom84SS has pointed out, if your Carburetor is not in GOOD CONDITION, it will take ALLOT more than just a few adjustments to bring it up to it's full potential.
Just want to make that very clear !!!:dontknow::dontknow:
