Can anyone point me in the right direction to find an engine wiring harness for an 86 e.c.? I was on the freeway and I lost all power then poof everything melted,no flames and little smoke.Temp gauge was a hair above normal. Mainly right side melted, but want to replace all anyway. thanks.

In my frame off I elected to use the Painless Generic 18 circuit. It fits the GM connection at the steering colum. There is a Company called Factory Fit that could have exactly what you need though. They have a Web Address. We could list them in the links section here but if not just do a Google search on that phrase.
You might have to call them.

Hey Pete, how'd that painless install? Was it pretty easy, and did you do the whole vehicle? I'm considering using it on my 74.
I've seen different brands at the car shows I've been to recently, but I'm leaning towards Painless.

Your best bet is to hit the junkyards and try and find an unmolested 82-87 El Camino or 82-88 Monte Carlo wiring harness. If you're still running with a computer you'll need all the wiring for the sensors and the E4ME carb. I'm not aware of any aftermarket company who makes the complete harness.

Factory Fit doesn't make any harnesses for 5th gen El Caminos.

I'm having the same problem. My '80 elcamino caught fire 6 motnhs after I finished it. I can't afford a new wiring harness, and the one they sold me from the junk was out of an 80 malibu. So far it has been rough. It appears that it has a 2 headlight system, mine only has 1 per side. The started hooks up well, and the plug for the alternater seems to fit also. I'm a little hazy on the alternater wires, and don't seem to have a 4 prong connecter for my heater box. I've tried looking at the schematics I've found on this site. but can't figure it out.
