I'm going to drop a 383 in my Elky soon, and with a dyno program I have, it should have about 420 horses and 440 lb-ft torque. Do you think I'd kill my 200-4R?

Stock 200-4r? Yes, in no time if you leen on it. They can be made to handle it, but a complete rebuild would be in order.

I had a friend of mine rebuild it a few months ago. Didn't drive it too much after. He rebuilds trannys for a living.

Find a competent 200-4R rebuilder for the Turbo Buicks. We have a great one in Chicago: http://www.chicagolandbuick.org/fast_times/advertising/jimmys_ad.PDF

Or try searching on www.turbobuicks.com for one more local.

That place seems like they know everything about this tranny. Thanks a lot.

It could just be the way I look at things but if your planning on doing a CAM brake in on that engine leave the Torque Converter disconnected until afterwords. You should also look into a Stall Converter.

My opinion is that your Converter Stall should be closly matched to your bottom line RPM. a CAM with specs of say 2000 to 7000 RPM should have something lik a 2000 or 2500 RPM Stall converter.

The 200R4 is a good transmission if its built correctly. You can buy some Billet pieces for the inside like, the sprag and pump and some other stuff. I'd go as much new "Hard pieces" as you can afford. Clutches and that sort of stuff is fine but its the metal pieces that will cost the most to repair and cause the biggest damage inside.

Just a put... Sounds like a good combo.
