I also want to restore my original metal. I know it fits... unlike Taiwanese stuff.

I would figure on at least as much as a new repop bumper. However, you know it's going to fit and the chrome should be of much better quality.

Now, the good thing about finding a good local plater --- you can drop off and pick up. Shipping a bumper is not cheap!

Hey '71, thanks for the tip. I visited their web page. Of course they can't provide a quote without visual inspection but it looks like their ballpark for rechrome is $125. I'll give them a call tomorrow and visit their shop next month to confirm what they can do and the price. Later - Jim

Skiny MAKES a very good point here !!! Triple Plated for a buck twenty-five? Don't think so !!

You could check with your local Paint/Body folks, and ask them for local referrals / recommendations. Just a thought!

There's no way any decent bumper rechrome will cost $125. You're looking at $400 and up for a good triple plate bumper rechrome. Show quality will be quite a more.

That's what I would expect too. Condition of the parts will also affect cost. I'm fortunate that my bumpers don't have any bumps or bruises (they appear to be straight as well).

Do yourself a favor and go to the shop that only does it one way "RIGHT WAY". If there price list is under that very low figure of $300.00 than beware. You will get a one year guaranted to go bad bumper with no charge for the rust, pitting, flaking and peeling. The hole job is in the prep and than the plating, cheat on either and the job is bad.

But using your factory bumpers will get a better bumper than an after market new one just use the right shop.

I just had mine rechromed through a body shop where my son works. His shop cost was $343.00 for a 5th generation. He did a great job. A bumper guard cost me $80.
I agree cheaper is usually not good.

Pretty good prices. My rear bumper for my '70 Skylark cost me $350 8 years ago from a place called Desert Dog or something like that in Chicago.

Paul's Chrome out of Pa does fine work, but be prepared to pay for it. In this case you do get what you pay for. My bed corner pieces were quoted at $200 each.
