That is going to be personal preference. You should get all kinds of answers because we are all different. My Camino was red in the begining, I repainted it Guards red & liked it. Over the years it faded to a kinda orange color. Since I got used to that, I decided to repaint it Hugger Orange. At first I thought "Man that's to bright". It grew on me so now I like it. Everyone has a story. Choose what is going to make you happy. :)

If you are still in high school sans low on cash, one major consideration would be to repaint a shade of the original color, if not the original.
In doing so, the cost is kept down by not having to do a full primer job.
Two color companies that I have good about is House of Kolor and PPG.

Do yourself a favor, and don't do the 299. econobake.

Enjoy the Elk!!!

I feel the paint is the car. So take your time, save your cash and get what you like. The same color is smart unless you are not really crazy about it....then change it. Try to find a painter who works in a shop and will do side jobs. Maybe you can do the body work and he'll squirt it for you while you watch him. Don't you have an auto shop in school that will paint free or really cheap so the class can learn how? If not your school, try others in the area.
Good luck :D

Yeh, we have an autoshop.. but I've seen what the do to those cars. They left a fiero on just the rims in the parking lot for at least 4 months.. and ran a Hummer2 into a snowbank as fast as they could just to see if they could get it back out. They got it out 2 hours later, took the whole class.

Not someone i'd trust

A hummer at your school must be a bunch of rich kids.

Oh yes, all the farmers pooled their funds and bought a hummer.. kidding.. i guess the guy owns a ford or gm dealership, has two or three of the hummers... i think i'm going with the orange, but i may just leave it the same color until i get out of highschool. The fenderbenders amount to 2 or 3 a day in our parking lot and i'd hate to ruin new paint

Hey Man. Similar situation - High Schooler (Senior!!).
Just got my Elky painted a gold color and people (kids and teachers) love it!
There is a fully restored '70 chevelle and '74 nova and I get comments that mine looks the best :)

SO my vote is GOLD!
See some pics here to convince you.

Well, look at some paint chips at NAPA. A color that is a little more coppery is
FIREMIST GOLD MET.
And BTW both colors are stock GM, I believe 2000~2003 [not sure]

-A little tip. See if local boat shops will paint your Elky. My Friend had his '70 chevelle done by a boat guy and it looks Killer!
P.S. It was also cheaper. Wish I had done the same since I'm a high schooler and cash is short.

Yeh... hey 80elcamino! Do you guys have the same problem with crappy drivers in the parking lots? wish those guys would learn how to drive.

You talking about at the high? If so yes. We've got you standard issue showoffs that have nothing but cheap blast packs. Then the importers that race from speed bump to speed bump. They compete with the cheer leaders and jocks that drive and park wherever. :x
And don't forget the rich kids that drive the Benz's and Beamers and the H2's; they're afraid you'll break something, and how would they explain that to Daddy. 8O

Then, of course you got US the kids that drive the Classics! My school has a 70 chevelle, 74 nova, a few 60-65 mustangs and of course the 1 and only El Camino!

thats nothing.. in my parking lot we have the yoopers.. thats right! they're worse then rednecks! about 1/3 or our school drives these old rustbuckets, and if you dont let them in when they're trying to merge to get out of the parking lot, they just PUSH you aside, not kidding.. my brother drives a jag and i swear he about has a stroke every time he pulls out of that place...

Oh! you got it. When people see NICE NEW cars they thing "Neat". But when people see a classic (especially older people) they will even approach you and tell you "Cool car" or "That's Awesome". In fact I got those complement just today in a matter of 2 hours!

Makes You feel real good!

Thats one of the best parts of owning and driving a clasic elky.i even had one guy that said he was a car guy. ask me what year my ranchero was for some reason he thought my choo choo was a ford,

80elcamino

OUCH! whata insult.
The other advantage is one word "Appreciation" not only car appreciation but value appreciation instead of depreciation.
I Think you'll all agree, eh?
