Ok guys I know this sounds basic but I have a few questions here. I have been geting some unwanted noise from the rearend for the last couple of days. I was thinking of just buying a rearend from a salvage or out of the newspaper but then I had this "GREAT" idea. I said to myself, "self" why don't you just buy a complete doner car. The thing is around here everyone is very proud of thier Elcamino's nomatter what shape they are in. I started looking at other "G" body cars but I don't know what will fit. I know the front clips don't fit from buicks and monte carlos but everything else for the most part should right? If I buy a complete car I would like to use the rearend, dash, maybe steering colomn, windshield, rear sway bar, and maybe door panels. I know that a malibu would be next best thing but they go very quick and high priced aswell.(btw my car is a '79) Any information would be great. Thanks in advance Kenneth.

For the most part all the parts you mentioned ie. rearend, dash, steering column, windshield, front and rear sway bars and jounce bars, and door panels (if 2 door parts car) will fit, also the front seat if 2 door. There are also other parts such as suspension parts that will work, as long as it's a 78-87 GM G-body car. There are some slight variations in the style of dashes, but this is due to air and heating ducts primarily and the style of speedometers in the first couple of years. The ideal rearend would be from a Buick Grand National or Regal Type T, and an Olds 442. These are 8.5" rearends and are stronger than the 7.5". The 8.5" isn't easy to find and can be a bit expensive used. The doors from a Pontiac Lemans (78-81) I believe will also fit if you replace the glass with the glass from your Elky.

That's one of the cool things about GM , so which was interchangable.

Ok next question, what will fit from a 3rd gen f body?

Da motor and da trans. Seriously tho, there are some parts that would interchange, but if you plan on buying an F-body for a parts car and it's for anything other than a donar car for engine and transmission, I wouldn't, your going to have a lot of parts left over that are not going to do you any good.

Thanks, I was thinking of the big brake upgrade some one told me that 3rd gens would work. I also need a rear end. And that Lauren elcamino with the thrid gen dash looked very good.(don't know if would want to try it, the dash is 2 1/4 inches longer and the heat\ac system could realy suck.) but nice try on my part right?

You should be able to use the 11" disc brake rotors, calipers, and spindles off the F-body, but just as with the 12" conversion, I believe you'll have to go with aftermarket upper control arms. If you read the other post you had, you can install the disc brakes off the rearend of an F-body onto the G-body rearend, but the rearend housing itself will not work, nor will the axles. All the other internal components will, such as posi unit, ring and pinion, and bearings. I have also heard that the front sway bar off an F-body will work. Some other items that can be used would be the cooling system, if you find an F-body with electric fans, the radiator and fans can fairly easily be adapted to your Elky. If you find one with a TPI system, it can be used also, but you will need all the components including the wiring harness. Some guys also adapt the bucket seats to fit without to much modification to the seat tracks. Outside electric mirrors, and the stereo system will also work with little or no modification. I believe the steering box can also be used. Keep in mind that some of these parts from the F-body may already be worn out, so check them out before you install them on your Elky. It may be worth it, if you can find the right F-body, for the right price, you have some mechanical ability, are wiling to do some trial and error fitting and have a whole lot of patience. On the other hand if you don't know the difference between a Stanley hammer and a Craftsmen ratchet, don't do it, even though I occassionaly use my ratchets as a hammer. The sales people in the tool department at the local Sears know me by my first name!

I was mainly just trying to decide if I was to buy a parts car what to buy, Another g body or an f body. I already have the seats out of a 99 firebird. They did go in without much trouble though. Thanks for all the help guys.
