It could be in a worse spot. This is a fairly easy fix as far as rust goes. What you need to do is take a claw hammer and smack the rust with the claw, if the claw goes throug, that metal has to be removed, the rust has gone too far. Remove all of the rust. Using a dremel, grinder or cut-off tool remove the rusted area. Then cut a piece of metal to fit over the spot and weld her into place with a mig welder. After it's completely welded, grind the weld down flush and fill over the patch. After this, prime and paint, you're back to good with metal over the hole and no one will know any different.

If the claw doesn't go through ...

Well, this really depends on how much the claw didn't go through ... you don't swing like a mad man, you just hit it hard enough where it will go through the rusted metal. If it doesn't go all the way though, cut out the area that it did go through and grind down the area that it didn't go through. If it looks aweful, then cut it out, if not, you're okay and weld over it after you grind all of the rust away. Remember welding is much easier on clean medal so grind or wire brush the paint away from the area that you will be welding the patch to.

Hey, I couldn't get the pics up but if the door is somewhat solid you can grind out the rust. If there are holes you need to cut the metal out and weld in pieces. Or if you can wait Goodmark is repopping doorshells due out this fall. There is a thread on this subject or visit www.goodmarkindustries.com
