I have a 78 El Camino; I am trying to replace the boot on the upper side of the intermediate steering shaft where it connects to the steering column.
I am having a problem getting the steel pin out of the end of the shaft. I have tried heat, WD40, sledge hammer and a 1 ton press; none of these have even slightly moved the pin. Is there a trick to getting them out? Is it just frozen in there? I don't see any visible rust. Rust is not much of an issue on Arizona vehicles. I have the replacement boot, so I assume it has to come out.
I'm not sure what to try next, any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
AZrebel
