As I was installing the new door panels on my 71 I noticed 5 small holes along the bottom of the door. I figured they are for screws to hold the bottom of the panel tight against the door frame. There isn't any holes in the panel or other marks to help locate the screw holes. I installed the panels and all the clips and handles when it occurred to me I could put a stud into each hole under the panel and tap it with a mallet to mark the spot. Then I got the idea to poke the stud through the panel and be done with it. I cut off a 3/4 inch screw piece and took a 3/4 inch wood dowel and bored a 7/16 hole in one end about a half inch deep. I lifted the bottom of the panel and inserted the screw into a hole, let the panel rest against the screw end and tapped it with a mallet until I could see the bulge in the panel covering. I then put the dowel hole end over the bulge and tapped it until the stud poked through. I did all the locations and then installed the screws in the perfectly aligned holes. The large washers on the panel screws cover all the hole.
