I decided to post instructions on how I installed my white face gauge stickers since I am getting alot of emails about it. I would recommend doing this to everyone. They I wasn't sure if this needed to go here or the tips & tricks section but here it is.
They are easy to install, just remember to take your time. You must first completely remove the gauges. There is a good write up on removing the gauges on the Monte Carlo SS site if you need it. Make two marks on the outside edge of the gauge. One is the bottom center for alignment & the second where the tip of the needle rests.Gently remove the needles, as they pull straight off with a gentle tug. So the gauges look "real" spray paint the whole front of the gauge gloss white. Now you know why you made the marks as they are the only way of aligning the sticker.Gently place the sticker correctly because they stick very well. Go inside out to remove any air bubbles behind the sticker. Push the needle back on using your second mark. To make the effect better, paint sliver the back of the gauge plate before you reinstall it. Also replace any bulbs that are burnt out. I used 2825 bulbs because they are alittle brighter. I was amazed at how much better you can see the gauges day or night. The speedo is the hardest one to do. I had to also cut out around the odometer & trip meter numbers so I used a exacto blade after I replied them. If you have any specific questions please ask.

Just repaint them. You can buy a testers pin at any hobbie store or even Walmart to recolor them.

Tommy,
You've probably answered this numerous times but I misses it.
Where did you get your whiteface stickers and how much did they cost?

Also, why do you need to paint your gauges white first? Are the decals white or just transparent requiring you to paint your background first?

Your Elky looks great by the way.

Is your Elky painted Hugger Orange by chance? Looks like the same color as my 56 Chevy which is Hugger Orange.

Thank & Yes, I am painted 69 Hugger Orange. I love it. The stickers are white but you paint the complete gauge white so the edge will be white also. That way they will look "real". I bought the stickers off ebay a few years ago & have not been able to get hold of the guy that sold them. I am still looking.

Check out this web site http://www.maxten.com/ss_gauges/new/ if your looking for some very good information on converting your gauges this site is one of the best for that info. I bought a set of his overlays and they are great. One of the best things about them is that they are already cut out saving you that hassle. The font is for Monte Carlo SS but works well for an El Camino too. The price on these was less than the 19.95 others go for and the fact that they are already cut out makes them a bargain. I think you can contact the guy direct and he will deal with you rather than going through e-bay. Like I said the quality if great plus he is a car guy himself so he knows what the style and quality we want. Good luck Harald K

I got mine from the guy on e-bay whiteguage guy. They look great. And tommy had it right when he gave instructions. I have two faces for my speedo one with the 80 MPH and the other with the 140 MPH speedo. Gonna find a shop and have it re calibrated to the 140. there is a pic of it on page 10 last pic.

Well the 140 MPH speedo is getting re calibrated right now. I pick it up later when i go to work. Will put it in and check it out. Cost me at a local shop $75.00 to do it but he reconditioned it as well, new bushing, and spring and a good lube on the shaft. The guy was telling me that the140 decal will be slightly off past say 90 Mph cause of the face of the gauge. Also he showed me a 120 speedo face from a 78 malibu policecar. Said he had 15 of them a couple of months ago. Has one left. Will repost the pic when i get it in.

also here is a pretty cool site http://www.covansclassic.com/ with some trick dash replacements for Elky's/Chevelles.

Anyone interested in changing the look to a more contemporary yet somewhat traditional dash (with more gauges to boot!) might find these to be what you would like.

if anyone tries one, come back here and tell us about it, if its worth the serious money, and the ease of installation etc...
