I got a 350ci sb. With that crap quadrajet 4bbl carb thats run by the ecm. I have nothing smog on this car. From arizona. The pump and cat and all that other crap is gone. I want to eliminate this carb and ecm. I want to get rid of all electronic crap on my car but by disconnecting the ecm the timing goes way down. I think the distrbuter is ran by the ecm. What kind of carb and distriubuter should i run on my car to make it run well. Right now ill get backfiring, once warm runs like crap. Im trying to make this thing run right w\o smog. Also in the morning i get so much moisture outta the tailpipes although ive heard flowmasters do that i have true dual flowmasters. Well if you could help me out thatd be great thanx.

Yes, The computer has input to the dist. also. Go find a non computer HEI, 70s to early 80s. There are alot of carbs to choose from . I like my Edelbrock performer carb but everyone has their own preference.

I understand that it is easy to blame the Quadrajet carb when every the car is not running well. But it may not be the problem. I have a 350 with a mild cam, when I put it in I was not sure of which way to go on induction and decide to have the Quadrajet rebuilt by Jet performance. I still us the electronic distributor with an 81 Corvette chip. The car runs fantastic pulls very strong and idles just great. If you are having some problems with back firing and you have removed or some one has the smog junk you might want to check for a vacuum leak before you spend a bunch on a new carb and distributor. I would make sure to identify the real problem first and go from there. Good luck Harald K

a stethescope would work nicely for this vacuum leak search

Both my 87 El Camino and my 86 MCSS are running just fine on the original CCC systems. The E4ME Quadrajet is a good carburetor. It's not "crap" as you put it. If you take the time to learn about it you'll find that the CCC system is real easy. Like Harald K said, it's easy to blame the carb or the computer. It's inevitable that some day your Elky will have to be smogged. Then what will you do when it fails because of the modifications?

I love the CCC Quadrajet and ECM. It keeps the engine in tune for cruising and let's me work around it for WOT. With a scan tool, it practically troubleshoot's itself.

It's really quite simple. I would never pull the ECM off my '83 Buick which sees a fair amount of drag racing. I've done a lot of modifying and still pass emissions.
