Howdy all,
Just a progress report.
I recently came up with a '78 EC. From what I gather I'm the 3rd owner and the 2nd didn't know much about the car. I was told it needed the TV cable adjusted and that it had speedo issues. It has a crate 350 in front of a 700R4 tranny. That the fella knew.
What I managed over the weekend was getting the Edelbrock 1405 changed over to electric choke, installing a BTO TV system, and generally getting a feel for what is in the driveway. Looks like I've got a 3.73 carrier in the rearend. I'm curious now whether it's full posi or limited slip. I'll get into that another weekend! The tranny is already setup for the lockout torque converter, I just want to wire it up for towing on occasion. I still need to figure out the deal with the speedo. For now I'm calling it a day. Livin' on coffee and cigs all day has got me hungry!
I coulda got more done, but there's always yard work, laundry, dishes, and other domestic crap that needs done. All in all, a great weekend!

I spent 2 days working on the ol 66 pickup (just finished a gear change last weekend when I found the pinks deal cost 4 teeth off the ring gear. Lowered the ratio from 5.43's to 5.13's and new DOT slicks) Pulled the intake to fix a small oil leak, Found it wasn't the intake,,,, it was just the dam distributor gasket,, what a MORON!!! No good deed goes unpunished..... checked all the springs in the rev kit, checked valve spring seat pressure, checked VtP clearance and started thinking..... (that always gets me in trouble) hmmm .539 intake lift,, .28 Vtp clearance.. hmmm if I got that much on the intake,,, whooohoo have .558 lift and .33 clearance on the exhaust side. Well WHY haven't I thrown that set of new Crane Gold 1.6 roller rockers on this thing yet???? When Crane closed I ordered a set of 1.5 and 1.6 gold series rockers to put on the shelf because there are simply few better better and with no more being made... I stocked up. (which BTW, I just ordered another couple of sets and Summit says they still have 'some' in stock but supply is just about out. If you want em, get em NOW because it's going to be a hope and a prayer if S&S really does revive the auto line of Crane IMPO)

So anywas.. truck now has .575 / .595 lift , top end is fresh, rear end is fresh, the old 6" rod 383 forged assembly from the old Nova motor is fresh, trans is fresh... I need to go to the track!!!

So it was a busy busy weekend. Barely had time to take the Camino for a cruise to pick up a few tools at the Sears Craftsman tool sale today. Bu tnot much of a sale anyways!

Welcome Captain. Good buy on the Choo Choo, but sorry about your friend. Your location sounds like an interesting place to live. Should get some answers on the oil and temp gage question.
