Since a few days, i have to reach the pedal further down to brake. It comes and go. Like today, i was stopped at a traffic light, then the car started moving again and had to press further for it to stop again. So i check my break fluid for leaks and it appears it doesn't leak and i still have my full level of brake oil. So i'm thinking master cylinder? How to be sure? What else could it be??
Thanks
Uli

Yep, master cylinder. It's by-passing fluid in the internal seals.

If you are not losing fluid at the reservoir and there are no signs of leakage at the wheel cylinders, it must be the master.

I would say its your master cylinder. If you have power brakes it could also be your booster needs to be replaced but I would check the master cylinder first. Drain it and check for cracks or holes in the wall that separates the two reservoirs. If they are fine you might wanna get a new seal kit for it if there broke then ur gunna need a new cylinder. If the problem still occurs you might wanna try replacing the power booster. Keep in mind breaks are a vital part for your safety and those around you and your car. If you dont think you can replace anything yourself you might wanna go to a brake guy. Also the things I have said are only based on my personal experience I am by no means a mechanic. But with all that said and done good luck to you and your endeavor I hope you get all your brake problems figured out!
Keep on wrenching
