Hey Congratulations, another beautiful day in the neighborhood!!! Post some pics. Tips, tricks, and help? Depends on what your plans are for your new Elky. Remember your Elky is not subject to emissions testing so the skys the limit...actually your wallet! Can you say BIG BLOCK?...sure you can, I knew you could.

Well i will post a few pics going to pick it up Friday. It has a 350 in it now and thats what i wanted i am not a big block fan. But i am sure there will need to be some goodies added... It is a California car so rust is minimal a little work and some paint will do wonders i am sure.

Congrats on your "new" third gen. I'm only "slightly" partial to that style......
What color is it presently? Mine has a SB 350 and I like it. Wouldn't mind a big block, but that is for down the road. The 350 gets up and goes just fine. With some headers going out the duals, it sounds pretty good also.

Congrats on your purchase. As for anything to watch out for ... yeah, unlike other years El Camino's you can buy practically everything for the 3rd gens.

Most of the problem areas are attributed to rust and it doesn't seem that is a big problem on your car. If you don't have front disc brakes, that is a very common upgrade. Lots of guys now-a-days are upgrading the suspensions as well to help these old gals keep up with the new cars and oh yeah, they can.

If the engine is the original 350, you may consider keeping it in good shape as this certainly drives the value up.

Enjoy your new ride!!!

Well right now it is White but i am gonna have it repainted dark cherry red. And the new rubbers are on order already. It is the original 350 so that i know will stay. The front discs i will have to look into. Headers and new exhaust are definatly on my list.

thanks for the input.

As Tom would say on Dream Car Garage

Tom wonders whether we really need a car like this and perhaps we don’t – not even the fabulously rich. However, after having driven this absolutely awesome feat of automobile engineering Tom concludes that you ache to own a car like this!

Congrats on your "new" third gen. I'm only "slightly" partial to that style also. I really love my 1969 and it has a 350 also with a comp.270H cam with headers and 2.5 in dual flowmasters. It scoots with what it has so big block will only cost you more money. If you convert to the power break master setup for $289 rather than full conversion to disc breaks $989 it dosen't drain your resources as fast and you can upgrade to discs later. Power assist conversion is bolt on and will give a good improvement from the manual drums.
Conversion to electronic egnition is good also but watch out for voltage spikes as any bad ground can toast the ignition module.
Have fun and post some pictures..... 8)
