Getting ready to paint engine pulleys, fan blade and radiator. Did the factory use black gloss or semi-gloss paint. What do you know?

Gloss black on engine parts. Semi-gloss or satin on engine compartment, inner fenders, etc.

This is weird. I just got an article on engine compartment motor accessories and undercarriage detailing. It says that most of the engine accessories (power steer, A/C, alt. brackets, etc) were painted in 60% gloss black meaning it is a semi flat black color that has more of a gloss appearance than flat appearance. To me, Krylon 1613 Semi-flat black would be good to use. Only thing in the engine compartment that got gloss black was the radiator but this is also for a 1970 Chevelle / El Camino.

I've noticed, over the years, that Black Engine and Black Compartment / parts is a bad combination as far as being able to see what you are doing when working in there.

It hides the grease fine but it hides the grease and lots of little parts and pieces. My luck is that my ride usually brakes down in the evening or at night. Can't see squat.

Given that my eyes are also in their late forties but still black?

Hey Pete;

He's only taking about the pullies, fan and radiator not the block.

But here's another little fun fact...a black block will dissipate heat faster than any other color.

that may be true, but the dissapated heat has to go somewhere and that means your engine compartment and everything in it. If you dont have your fuel lines etc wrapped with heat reflecting material then they will absorb a lot of the ambient heat. It may or may not effect proformance, but the same goes for the black paint.

But, if you're driving fast enough then the heat just flies right out
