: Squeaking bushings

Hello,
I just finished my frame off resto. At the front axles I used silicone bushings, also the new body bushings are made of silicone.
Due to better handling and durability I thought this was the better choice.
But now the car is squeaking all the time, I think it is from the front axle bushings.
I took silicone spray, but it didnīt help.
Can anybody tell me what to do?
This is kinda embarrassing, my ride sounds like an old rusty castle-door :dontknow:
Anybody experienced this?

When using Poly or Silicone type Bushings, they require a very thin coat of Grease
or a Film of Anti Seize to be applied during their install. And just so you know, that in
it's self will not KEEP THEM FROM SQUEAKING in time. That's the major draw back with
their use. They just don't have the flex / movement as rubber do to their composition.

Uups...
Of course I meant: polyurethane bushings.
Not silicone...
That is something different --> (o)(o)

You mean: I have to rebuild it once again??

If you assembled them DRY, they will keep squeaking. The Poly Graphite type are somewhat better in that respect.

Thanks.
Would you recommend a special grease or is it same, what I use?

I assembled mine with anti-seize. 13,000+ miles and still no squeaks. I have done them with the lube they send and it doesn't last.

I've got the polygraphite bushings from PST in my car for nine years. The only time I get squeaking is when it get below forty degrees and that lasts foe about 30 seconds.

When I put in new bushings, I used the Poly Graphite and they also squeaked.
I was a little upset but I was told to use some Lithium spray. I had to spray it a couple of times but it finally quit squeaking.
Give it a try and good luck

As 464elky Stated, & I also use Anti-seize in there installation. It stays allot longer than
Grease IMHO. It doesn't take much, as I said, a slight film will do, or as the Brylcream
Commercial says ~ "A LITTLE DAB WILL DO YA"

I had similar front bushing trouble and some of my bushings(sway bars etc) came drilled for grease fittings, sharp drill of correct size thru the frt A frame bushings and add fitting, under neath inside , on clean sharpdrilled hole, and use a good grease, lasts longer and longer each time! takes care of the ones not already fitted out this way

I'm glad you folks mentioned that about the squeeky bushings. I'm about to put the front suspension back together. I use anti-sieze for a lot of things, even for the through bolts that hold the front brake calipers on. The lithium grease in a spray can sounds like a reasonable idea.

I did the same thing as kloudryder50. After installing a energy suspension bushing kit it squeeked just like everyone elses. After contacting the manufacter and being told that it is a inherint "quality" I put up with it for a couple of years. Then I decided to install grease fittings, figured it could only help. First I marked all of the bushings with a sharpie in places I could get to with a grease gun. then I removed the suspension pieces and removed the center metal bushing from each fitting, then drilled all the way through to the center of the poly bushing, and taped the metal outer shell for the grease fitting. I then used a dremal with a 1/4" round rotory file and set the leangth to match up from the nearest edge of the poly bushing to the hole I just drilled. then laid the shank of the rotory file flat on the inner surface and set the rotory file ball in the hole, turned it on and made a groove all of the way around the inner diamater to allow a path for the grease to get all the way around the inner metal bushing. Be shure to really clean all of the metal and plastic bits before you put it back together. Its been more than four years since I did this and every winter when she starts to sqweek and kreeck I just relube it and presto. I always have used synthetic grease but dont know if any of the other types would work or not. Its a lot of work to redo the bushings this way but would be a snap before installing the parts in the first place, just be carefull of where you place your grease fittings especialy in the upper a arms. I actualy got mine to close to the edge but was able to grind down one side of a grease gun fitting to make it work. If you would like pictures or have any questions just ask.
Good luck Mike

Thanks for that idea Mike. I can do that to mine before I install the suspension. My Malibu has the same front end, so I can look there for the place to put the grease fittings.

Good post Mike. Should come in handy for a few owners.

I used Del A Lum front control arm bushings, but poly everywhere else. The UMI trailing arm I installed had zirk fittings in them already. The bushings themselves were already grooved from the factory, as well as the front swaybar bushings.
