There is a large open car show in Chattanooga on May 30th. If there are enough interested Region-7 members I can get space set aside for our vehicles in this car show at the Tennessee River Walk, 8am-5pm, but you can come late, leave early if you don't want your vehicle "judged". There is also outside parking for the family car if you just want to come and mingle.

Any other suggestions for a Region-7 get together? Let me (Bill Waxler) 423.413.3570, or Dan Smith (ElkySS@att.net or 423.843.9225) know. Maybe something in Dalton, Georgia or Gadsden, Alabama?

Go Region-7!

Bill;

I think I am going to try and make it up this year, after all it's just a two hour drive.

Hey Bill, good to hear from you, hope all is well. I don't think the Elky will be road ready anytime soon. Would like to catch the car show, how large is it expected to be?
This may be a bit to far out for a turn-around road trip for the wife and me. Possibly when it gets closer to the homesite, or to other family members, we'll make the cruise. Thanx for the invite :-D

I'm slowly mending, thanks for asking.

There were over 300 cars at the last River Walk show.

There is a Hampton Inn across the river about 2.5 miles from the show entrance: Hampton Inn, 1920 Hamill Rd, Hixson, TN, 423-877-3100 (this is a suburb of Chattanooga).

I'll try to get a flyer on the show and get Dan to post if for me.

Hey Guys,I'm sorry to say that I can't go.I'm helping my friend finish his Elky and also house hunting at the same time. When we moved to Ga in '97 we down sized to 1600 sqft. What a mistake. The house is too small and the 5 acres of lawn is too big to mow every week.I'm looking for 2500 sqft and just 1 acre.
More time for the Elky and road trips!!! :D

Don't believe I'll be able to get up there, but you never know, I might play hooky :-D
I'm planning on heading down to the Barrett/Jackson Auction in Florida the 18th of March. My Dad wants to go, he lives sorta close to it so I'm making a road trip to take him. It ought to be fun!

Hey Shane long time no hear, sounds like your staying busy. Get well educated on them Elkys, I might need some help on mine (I mean my Grandson's)........

Caveman,I've been lurking a bit.Anything you need, just let me know.As long as it's not money!
Looked at a house the other day and in one garage was a Hurst Olds,W-25.In the other was a '78-'79 or so Elky.I told the owner about our site and I hope he joins.
Where in Fla is the Barret-Jackson auction going to be?
Thanks,

Shane, the B/J Auction is at the South Florida expo center, Palm Beach, 18-21 March. Admission is 15 dollars daily for adults (10 for students/Mil with ID). My dad is registering to buy, that is a bit more, around 150 dollars along with the required paperwork approval.

Have you found a home yet? Sounds like you're looking to expand some under roof! One thing is for sure, you never seem to have enough room, especially closet space. Good Luck, and I hope you find your dream home.

Later,

You can also come and park outside the show and just look around and shoot the breeze with other members.

Bill Waxler just called me and said this show is on and NECOA/ECC Region-7 members should e-mail him (1986SS), or me (ElkySS) to get a pre-show head count so he'll have some idea of how many spots to ask for in the River Park show area.

I'll ask him to send out some individual e-mails for those that don't log-in to ECC that often.

I am looking foward to trying to make the show. I have a couple of clients one or both may take my weekend. If not I plan to see you there. I will not need any place for show although I am hoping mine will go by this weekends end. New Engine. Next comes paint.

Ok Bill, the date is marked on the calender. I'll park with everyone, but my Elky is certainly not ready to be judged against others...

How about some more details...

...The Region-7 cruise-in/show is on for this Sunday in Chattanooga. See show flyer above.
...For a personalized map to the Region-7 Cruise-in/Car Show, key www.mapquest.com into your internet browser, then key "4325 Amnicola Highway, Chattanooga, TN" into the mapquest fields. You can also key your home address into mapquest.com and get driving instructions from your door to the show site.
...That address is for the business next door to the Tennessee River Park show entrance (Olan Mills, Inc.), right past Chattanooga State Community College. If you pass the Navy Reserve Center (going toward downtown Chattanooga, you've gone too far).
...There is also a contact for a hotel in an earlier post in this thread.
...We plan to give a special prize for the top El Camino/GMC at the show.
...Drop by the Region-7 tent and get your free Coke and Moon Pie.

...Only had five NECOA/ECC Region-7 members show up. But, we had a very good time. A couple of rain showers, got to wipe the cars down about three times before judging occurred. Did enjoy meeting Peter, John and Tom. A few photos are posted here: http://www.elcaminocentral.com/modules.php?set_albumName=album161&op=modload&name=Gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php
...Thanks to Bill Waxler (1986SS), Tom Goss (ElCamonoSS31316), John Hizer (JJ73) and Peter Brown (87SS) for their participation.
...Tom took Top-5 in the 1969-1989 Truck class, Bill and Dan (ElkySS) took Top-5 in the 1978-1988 Car Class. Neat thing about El Caminos in this area, you get to choose whether you want to be in the car classes or truck classes in most shows.
...Tom won People's Choice on his first show outing. Way to go, Tom! He also took long distance award for NECOA/ECC Region-7. Receiving an ECC/NECOA clock for that award.
...This show is held twice a year. The next one is October 2, 2004.
P.S. Ask Tom to see his Burn Out video...awhsome, and well made.

Wanted to add a link to my page at Cardomain if anyone wanted to get the video of my Camino that Dan (ElkySS) had mentioned above.. Would also like to mention that Dan and Bill (1986SS) both had beautifull Elcaminos! I really enjoyed meeting them and got a few more ideas on future changes to mine! Well, here's the link.. http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=355879&page=1

Looks and sounds like you all had fun. I could not manage to get away but look foward to the next Region 7 get together. Congradulations on the addition to the trophy collections. That sure is three great cars.

Any idea how many region 7 members are out there?

Best estimate I can make from our membership roster is at least 147 members in Region 7. This counts only those peole who listed a state or city in the location field of their member profile. In some other cases, I make an educated guess when they said only that they worked at TVA or attended some university in that area. Way less than 50% of our members have bothered to fill in the location field to date. In a future upgrade of the software, Robert is going to try to make that a mandatory entry.

Sounds like you had some fun despite the bad weather all across the country. Have you tried to identify some local cruise nights on weekends that members can attend which are closer to home?

Congrats to all Region 7 members. Looks like a good show and NECOA showing.

Pretty good going from Internet computer "virtual reality" to "real reality" for shows, cruises, and meet'n'greets. You gotta love this stuff.
