So, I distinctly remember when I was a kid, my parents removing the phoenix decal from the hood, and the 'diablo' decals from the quarter panels (I think), but over the years I've run across a few things that have suggested that it may not be a Diablo. Would there be any other identifying features (aside from coding) that would tell me? The emblem on the dash just says Caballero... not Diablo... is that correct? I kind of wonder if the guy that my Dad bought it off of (in '81 - it's an '80) had just throw nthe decals on and called it a Diablo.

Doch, Look at the body tag, or if you know the orig. paint. Diablo came in two tones. U and L If the the body tag has differant numbers it is very likely a diablo. The Laredo came with two colors also. I just got the orig. invoice for mine ($50) and it was worth it. If you have the emblem on the dash, there is a guy looking for one.

You're saying ALL Diablo were 2 tone... ??? Mine is not, and never was. I also do not have the dash badge, but apparently (from the other post were he's looking for the badge) that only came on the 82-86. I sure would like one though...

Doch, look for a tag in the glove box marked service parts identification. The diablo will have code Z15.

If you dont have the tag, a few other "Diablo" features will identify it, black trim on the rear window and rear side windows, dual sport mirrors, front air dam, and sport guages.

Not sure if ALL Diablos had 2 tone paint, I know mine did.

Hey, just looked at the pics of your car, I seems to have all the right stuff found on the Diablo package. Only way to know for sure is to find the build sheet, or get one from GM.

There is a company that has the orig. Dealor Invoice and Build Sheet for GMC since 1976 . Google: gmmediaarchive.com for Vehicle invoice. It is the orig. Invoice. Each cost $50. It will have theYE6 and Z15 sport pkg listed if it is a Diablo. From all the Brochures and Dealer spics, Diablos came in two tones and the wheels would be the same color as the lower panel color. You can find these brochures online and look at them to see. Check with Ernie 87ElCamino he might have other links to help.

Two tone could be same color but one darker than other. it will be two differant numbers on tag.
