So I posted a thread awhile back about Manually shifting my automatic trans (th350) for racing purposes. well i noticed that after i did it i had a little bit of oil leakage from one of my intake manifold bolts. it looks as if the oil just seeped up through there and didnt come from a leaking intake gasket or valve cover gasket. any ideas to why this happened? too much pressure at high rpms? well the highest ive got was 4500 to 5000 rpm. but still. or maybe waiting to long to shift and thats building up the pressure? well any input would be appreciated. thanks.

It came from somewhere. Just didn't materialize on it's own.:dontknow:
Clean the area good and keep an eye on it.

Is it one of the 4 center bolts? Small blocks are notorious for leaks in these areas. Oil climbs the threads of these bolts and pools in the manifold. Clean, re-silicone the threads and re-torque the bolts.

yeah it is... its the second bolt on the drivers side. damn thing. yeah i cleaned it and watching it now. hopefully it isnt goin to be persistant. when i get a chance ill go ahead and re do the whole intake manifold gasket just to be safe. then silicone the screws before i torque them in. thanks tho.

sa just checking,
what did you do with the 5/8 breather tube thats in the left valve cover...

i all ways check the intake bolts after a few heat cycles...

and yea 4500-5000 is about all you can safely want out of stock valve springs...:texas:

yeah i have a habit of checking them just in case but its been raining and stuff here and just havent had the time. and yea i really dont want to over rev it but also just trying to find a good shift point that makes a smooth transition when i shift. so it doesnt lag. and as far as the breather question goes,, i dont fully understand the question. you asking if i checked the breather to see if the rubber grommet is leaking, or is it another question?

Why not remove the leaky bolt, and put some Permatex or other sealer on the threads, and screw it back in. Then you will know if it's the bolt, or the gasket.

Is there a vacuum fitting screwed into the intake manifold behind your carburetor with a few hoses attached to it? If so the oil may have come from a vacuum line hooked into the transmission. I had one in that location and a line ran from there down to the vacuum modulator. When you were manually shifing some trans fluid may have blown out of that fitting if the pressure in the tranny case got high enough. It's similar to the problem some people have with big blocks blowing their oil dipsticks out.

when you installed the cold air intake...
what did you do with the 5/8 breather tube thats in the left valve cover...
it goes from valve cover up to the little filter inside the air cleaner housing...
if you pluged it ???? then you wiil have more oil leaks...
all that blow by needs someplace to go...just checking...may save u some problems...:texas:
