I pulled these numbers off rear end CF1007B
CF in 68 = 3.31 posi gears
10= OCT.
07= 7th
B= Buffalo New York
It looks like 64-72 used the same prefix CF, all years gears 3.31
Question, any way to determine what year the rear end is from?
Also did any come with 411s or are they (after market)?
Thanks
Donny

On the rear side of the housing (cover side), there will be some numbers in the casting. Those can be decoded to tell you the year. Yes, 4.10 gears were available from the factory as an option. I had a 71 Berger Z28 with 4.10's and my brother had a 69 Berger Nova with 4.10's also. I worked at a Chevey dealership in the 70's and seen a lot of cars optioned like that.

Yes...and I just had a double berger with lettuce tomato and cheese...no mayo! Your an old fart aren't you...I used to hang out at Nickey Chevrolet back around 70-72. Man Chevy made some great musclecars then and a few dealerships really made them killers! There's a dark brown 69 SS Nova with a 427 L88 4 speed in it running around by me that came from Nickey...it's all original and looks like the day it rolled out of the showroom...everytime I see it...I do one of these--->:hail:

Sorry Donny..as to the year...I don't know, but a lot of musclecars came equipped with 4.10/4.11 gear ratios as an option from the factory...I seem to remember gas being cheaper back then.
