i've been thinking of perhaps finding a parts car for my '64 and was wondering if anyone knows of some links or the like that show what is interchangeable between 2nd generations. i know that it varies depending on the part, but any general info. would be helpful. thanks a lot.

64-66 Malibus, Chevelles, and of course El Caminos would be your best bet. Suspensions frontends and entire drivetrains are interchangeable along with a good amount of interior pieces. However other GM's during those years did not share a lot of the same parts, factory tooling was cheaper back then and each Division of GM was still acting and doing their own thing.

There is a book (a BIG book) called the Hollander Interchange Manual which cross references auto parts--IE you have a 1966 El Camino and you need a door lock, the manual will list the other GM cars that used the same lock. Wrecking yards always have one of these manuals (or a set of manuals) around. If you need to buy on go to a wrecking yard they may sell you an old manual cheaply.
