i have a 78 elcamino, vin # L now my question is. is the 78 lm1 a good engine or what?
i have been thinking about getting some vortec heads and slaping them on but now i see that i will have to change the pistons, or what do you think will make this a very good running sleeper engine. any advice is good advice.........right about now.

Why would you have to change the pistons??? The LM1 has dished pistons and I'll bet there is a mile of VtP clearance with most any cam you can use with a set of stock Vortec heads (Limited to .48" lift as I recell) You will have to change intake manifolds which is a bit of a issue because they don't come cheap for the Vortecs, but pistons????? I think I would question that. There is a lot of variables that 'could' effect that, but ........... in stock for I don't see it.

Of course, if you really wanted to wake things up,, if your going to change pistons,, why not change cranks too and make it a stroker 383. The added stroke, Vortec heads means you will still need a dished piston to keep copmpression reasonable, but,,, Put the right cam in it and you will be pleasantly surprised.
