Is the SES light on?

The E4ME Q-jet used a Mixture Control solenoid (blue connector) to control the gas/air ratio for the primarys. The dwell of the solenoid is controlled by the ECM. When you first turn on the ignition, but before you turn the engine over, you should hear the MC solenoid clicking. When you start the engine the ECM is in "Open Loop" and the dwell will be ~30*. When the engine is warmed up and the ECM goes into "Closed Loop" the dwell will vary up and down based on O2 feedback, TPS feedback, etc.

The first thing to do is see if you can hear the MC solenoid clicking with the ignition on. If not, you may have a bad MC solenoid. If the solenoid is open you'll run rich and the ECM should turn on the SES light.

Next, you should get a dwell meter, put it on the 6 cylinder scale and read the MC solenoid dwell. There will be a green wire and connector in the harness near the carb to connect the dwell meter to. If the dwell is OK you may have a stuck primary metering rod. (BTDT)

As you can see, there are lots of things that can go wrong with this type of carb. Post your results here and we can continue troubleshooting

There is no magic adjustment you can make to cure your rich condition.

Please don't take this the wrong way. But, based on your response, you would probably be better off bringing your El Camino to a qualified, professional mechanic rather than messing around with your carburetor adjustments.

I still have one Pete. It's one of the two ways to check the MC solenoid dwell on the E4ME and E2ME carbs used with the CCC systems. The other way, which is how I prefer to do it, is with a scanner plugged into the ALDL connector under the dash.

How do you know it's rich? What symptoms?

You should invest in a Monitor 85 or 2000 Scan tool. Check on ebay, they go for cheap.

Well i've had friends driving behind saying my car reeks of gasoline, plus when i'm in high gear and the speed is too low it starts overloading with fuel making like a sucking pop noise. It is very irritating.
