Ok, Im new to this site, not new to cars or Chevys, but this is my first time owning an El Camino. I just bought a '79 from a friend and it's in decent shape, of course I plan to do a whole lot of mods to it. I will be dropping a TPI 383 and 4L60 Tranny, the only thing I need now is to upgrade the fuel delivery system. The Elco came with with 13-inch Daytons. I figure I'll keep them on there till I get pulled over too many times. then I will put my 17-inch Cragars.

Mine is a '80 and it came with 20" gold plated Daytons, I had them off the next day, it is not the style I like, a friend loaned me a set of iroc rims and I've kept them, liked the way they turned out.
Your '79 looks real good from the two pictures you posted, with the updates you want to do it will turn out to be a contender.
Take care and welcome. :nanawrench::nanawrench::nanawrench::nanawrench:

Yeah at 2,500 bones I could not pass it up. I have the 383 and tranny all ready to go, just need to get a new pump, ad some lines and maybe a new tank for the EFI.

welcome and great looking El Camino. Here in Pa or the East coast for that matter anything that decent goes for at least 4-9k. Sad, but yea a lot of good looking cars ruts out around here. Good luck with everything and hope to hear from you around the board.

good luck with the engine swap- I notice you're in So Cal also- do you think the 383 will pose any dilemma's when smog time comes around? I want to do the same but am concerned about not passing California smog

If you bring over all the smog equipment from the donor motor I'd think you'd be ok.

I don't think so, I deliberately put a smaller smog legal cam in it and smog legal C.A.R.B heads with EO #'s etc. Transfer the smog pump over with the TPI engine and run a CAT it should have no problem. (Of course they may have problems with the Accel DFI Thruster engine management computer) I think technically I need to take it to a referee station, but I have found a way around that.

Welcome to the board. (i'm not far from FNG myself) Those Cincinnati machine tools in the background are far from new though! I work on some old Cincinnati machine tools to keep gas in the '66. :Welcome!:

Call this a stupid question if you will, but why would you get pulled oer to many times with the 13" Daytons? Don't get me wrong, I say ditch them, but is there some law in Cali about them???

Hey Mike - welcome to ECC

You Stole that beauty - I have been wanting a 79 for a long time - the 5th Gen 0ldest brother.

I read all the comments and chuckled because the first thing I noticed were those Dayton wires and the 3 wing spinners - very nice but considering your plans for additional power, they gotta go

Sincere Welcome and Sincere Compliments

Your plans for her including the change to 17" wheels sound fabulous but allow me to suggest you check your springs - it appears to me they have been cut to lower the stance, I am almost certain it is not just the 13s.

GOOD LUCK with your build and please keep us posted

Ok here is a terrible cell phone picture of the 383.

El Bandido, I was looking at purchasing a set of Global West lowering springs for the Elky. No Doubt the springs in my newly purchased ride have been cut or even worse heated.

After I cleaned up the floor, I put Dynamat down and ordered a carpet kit from Summit.

Next are these seat belts.

2500 bones including the paint job. It currently has a running driving 350/350 combo. Im putting in the 383/4L60 combo, getting rid of the Recaro seats and putting a 60/40 bench seat in (as soon as I can find one).
