Thank you Ed Rendell for moving forward with emissions testing ( :let_it_all_out: )
I have an 84 El Camino in Dauphin County ( Harrisburg) Pa.
It was originally equipped with a 6 Cylinder engine. It now sports a very healthy 406 SBC V-8. Most (if not all) of the emissions equipment is gone. Evap system and Charcoal canister gone, has hooker headers and 3" flowmaster exhaust.
I want to get it Inspected and make it Road legal. It is not going to be a daily driver, just a "Sunday" car ( read: less than 5K miles a year) with the occassional rip down the strip. Anybody know how I can get it through Emissions or how to register it to be legal to drive occassionally ??? Please help

Well you should be fine with it since it is 25 year old. You can just register and inspected as an old car. I also live in PA (Bucks County close to Trenton) and that is what I did. I actually email the Pa DMV or what ever you call them to get the exact answer. They said that I can take all of the emission stuff off, but it has to be inspected as an old car. Second you can not drive it more then 5000 miles a year. If you want it to be an antique then it has to basically me a show car and can only be driven during the weekend and have under 1000 miles. So I am not sure what the problem is unless your mechanic your working with is strict and mine is not. Not sure about that. Let me know if you have any other problems since we both live in the same state.

X2. Once my '87 hit 25 years of age I applied for PA Classic plates. There is a one time fee (I think it was about $75) with no annual renewal fee. You have to take pictures to show it's somewhat stock looking and send them with your title to Harrisburg to be re-titled as a Classic Car. There is no emission inspection required for a classic car. Not only do I save the $58.50 annual renewal, but PA state inspection is now cheaper since there is no longer an emission inspection fee. I also switched to classic car insurance from J.C. Taylor at the same time for a $165 annual premium at $10K declared value. I drove mine near daily from March thru October, but only accrued about 5,000 miles. I don't remember a yearly mileage limit for Classic Plates, but I could be wrong. It's worth checking out.

Billyjack if you have an 87 El Camino then your El Camino is not 25 year old unless I am missing what your saying.

Ok I am going with the Classic Plates as My Car IS 25 years old. I also have Grundy Insurance on it. Any tips for getting past the Nazi's at PennDot? i will probably try this on the Wife's 79, but it is no where near factory original Colors and has a Ground effects kit. Wish Me Luck!
Thanks For all of your Help Pa Homies! See ya At Carlisle

You just have to get it inspected as an old car and can't drive it more then 5000. Just tell your inspector about doing that and there should be no problem at all. That is what I did and everything was cool
