I'm looking to start on the interior of my '69 and I'm trying to decide between a repro. dash pad & a dash cap. The dash pad replaces the existing one and the cap installs over the existing pad. I think the pad is the way to go, but it's about $170. The cap is about $65, but I'm concerned about how it looks. Have any of you guys used the cap and if so are you satisfied with the fit and looks?

The cap looks good. In fact you have to look close it tell it is there. I now just use a dash mat. I like it but someday with change to a cap.

my elky came with a dash cap, and was warped from sitting in the sun. i might try to reshape it with a heat gun.. I would opt for the replacement pad if you can afford it.

An automotive interior guy here in town told me to save my money on the dash cap. He said the plastic dash caps will warp and pull up as time goes on. They look good at first, but in his line of work he can't afford to have things like that happen in a couple of years.
I think dashes are one of the most troublesome things to find in the interior. There's not alot of other options out there. Some people have used newer dashes in their older Caminos but I'd like to stay in my '78 era if I can. Not knocking anybody!
The carpeted dashpads seem to look alright and can be replaced if they get nasty looking. The one thing I don't like about dashcaps is, if/when they do warp and you have to start over - now you HAVE to start from scratch and try to find another donor.
