Hello to all! I just bought my first el camino yesterday. A 1979 that needs a fair bit of work, but I think it has potential. I'm stoked that there are so many elky enthusiasts out there who might be able to help me out as I go through getting her up to par. I've ordered my Haynes manual today to help me out. In the meantime, I need to replace the hardware under the drivers seat because the left rail/slide snapped by where it bolts to the floor. I've seen used rails available online but never for the exact year & car. Are they fairly interchangeable with like-aged monte carlos? Or can I buy a whole new replacement that's more modern? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

you can go out to just about any local junkyard or pull your own parts place and find a malibu/elco that has the seat rail. just make sure you get the bench seat one if you have a bench seat or the bucket if you have buckets. also might wanna make sure that the seating in the car is original and not pulled from a different vehicle. take some measurements of the one you have on there now before you just start pulling parts and making assumptions it will work :dontknow:

congrats on the cruck and welcome!

5th gen you can use the seat tracks from a78-88 Malibu El Camino, Monte, Cutlass, Regal, Grand Prix RWD.
Also if you find a split bench the tracks will also fit bucket seats.

It sounds like you have your first question answered, we are a great bunch. When I joined my first question was asking for the center a/c outlet, right away Speedy answered with one in great shape and excellent price.
Congratulations and welcome!

Welcome to the Forums, e.l.camino! Just a hint, but you may try to find an Assembly Manual for you cruck. Being mechanically challenged, I sure find the Assembly Manual a greater help that the Haynes Manual I also purchased. I refer to it almost every time I begin a project on my '68! Using the manual in conjunction with the GREAT advice I get from this forum, I can get a better understanding of the underlying problems before I get started.............Ken
