Purely out of curiosity, when hot rod and custom car builders do things like chop the tops of cars how do they make new glass to fit it since none of the original will fit anymore and I think that if you try to cut automotive glass when you score it and snap it wouldn't it break into a million little cubes? Plexiglass wouln't be too hard to manipulate but it would scratch too easy I would think.

Well, when I was racing a 1975 BMW 2002,we cut the pillars and lowered the roof 1 1/2 inches in the front and only 1 inch in the rear.I was lucky enough to have a friend in the glass business. He used a big fluid cooled grinder to cut down the windshield and rear glass. For the rear quarter pop out glass he came right to the shop where we were working and fitted them there. He used a belt sander and a squirt bottle with water and a couple of drops of dish washing detergent. It took a long time, but looked perfect. No one who was not told ever noticed the chop.
The shorter profile gave me about 300 more rpm in top gear, not much, but a small edge.

I read an article on that recently. It said that you can just lower the bottom of the glass into the car, and try to make it disappear. Cheaper than getting someone to cut the glass.

Thats what I did for the door glass,I just lowered the stops.I not sure I understand how to lower a fixed glass(like a windshield) into the car with out some fancy body work. It's not that expensive anyway, just part of the cost .
