Hey all,
im new here but i frequent Team Chevelle. Im just wrapping up the restoration of my 72 el camino and am about to dive headfirst into my 79 el camino. Its got some rust/hole issues but i intend to learn body work on it since i had a friend help me on the 72. Is there anything i should be lokoing out for when i start this project? The bed has had a cap on it since it was bought so the bed has NO rust or dents. it had a vinyl roof so the roof has some good size holes. standard holes infront of the rear wheels. other than that its not to bad.
As for the engine it has a tired 350 4bbl in it which i plan on swapping out with the 307 that came with the 72. the 307 runs strong so why spend money on fixing teh 350? Im using teh original trans which is a th350 and thinking about putting a floor shifter in instead of the column shift.
What can i expect to see on the frame when i take the body off? ive heard rot is an issue with the rear of the frames but other than that they are ok. The frame and underbody are goign to get a healthy dose of POR15 jsut as the 72 did.

Over all im just looking for some interesting info on what to expect when i open up this can of worms. i really cant wait.
thanks

Welcom to the site.

I put an old motor (72 400) in my 81 a few years back and the only problem I remember was an issue with the dip stick and exaust manifolds, wouldn't workout. I went to an oil pan with dip stick in the pan. this was with stock 81 exaust manifolds.
hope this helps some.
