Many have done 4X4... has anyone done a sick set up like a AWD? Maybe brought over a syclone or typhoon set up and put it under our elky? I think it would be bad-ass for a daily.

Never heard of one. But I bet it would launch hard. Wouldn't have those traction issues our Elkies have. The problem would be finding the Typhoon/Cyclone donor vehicle to do this. I wouldn't call them rare, but you don't see them every day either.

I only saw 1 syclone in my life and it drove by me as I was driving. Wow they are cool trucks!

I love typhoons, there's a white one at my school and it's in ok condition but they are cool little SUVs! My uncle had a black typhoon that he bough brand new but it had an electrical fire and burnt up. He still has the motor but that's it. But having awd would be cool, I've never thought about having it awd . I say go for it

I wonder if the frames would line up for a direct swap or if thats just wishful thinking ;P

typhoon:

wheelbase 100.5''

syclone:

wheelbase 108.3

5th gen elcamino

wheelbase 117''

there would be quite a bit of work stretching the frame... but it would be possible. would it be worth it tho?:poke:

I thought of AWD alot... It would be a sick set up for an elky. I dont know why they don't have that as an option on the Vetts? SRT8's have that option.

And whats the differnce in AWD and and puting an old school tranfer case in our elkys... Your still geting power to all fours

Oh yeah, this is what I have meant in 4x4 thread. I want AWD. So that if some BMW/Audi-driver comes next to me and challenges, I'll just leave four black stripes and let him pass. Hi-tek-Elky. That's just in my dreams, since you can't do that sort of modification here, without any major tax/legal and whatnot problems.

I had a buddy that figured he could make an AWD Astro van chassis work. He was going to build an AWD twin turbo for the wife to commute with.

I'm sure that if you bought a totaled syclone or typhoon you could just cut out the mid section and stretch it. Doesn't really sound like it would be an absurd amount of work. Just have to make sure it all lines up.

Difference b/w AWD and 4x4 is that there will be speed differential between the front and rear axle, which will allow you to steer without breaking driveline bits or seriously scrubbing the tires. On dry pavement 4x4 will have a real hard time once you go to turn. By the same token, an AWD system that doesn't have some sort of "positraction" setup in the transfer case will allow one spinning wheel to rob all the torque from the other 3 wheels.

I think an Astro AWD setup will be a lot easier to find. Real easy to find in a junkyard.

Seems like a lot of work would need to be done inorder to get AWD. I feel it is not worth all the work. I will enjoy my RWD El Camino and smoke those ricer with my 402 big block.

Like I said, AWD isn't for me. Seems like they are hardcore of the line but then as you start to finish your 1/4 you start to run out of "go" so to speak.

I'm all about RWD, just threw this idea out there to see if anyone had heard of an AWD G-body being made.
