My Elco began to develop quite a bit of surface rust on the roof and other misc. places, which sucked because paint and body work was the last thing on my agenda but i wanted to fix it before it got worse. So I decided to have the bodywork done on it and get it put in primer but i kept getting quotes with the cheapest being 600 (probably because i want the side markers shaved off and the holes for the snap on cover filled) so i decided to do it myself.
So I started the body work on my Elco last week :nanawrench:, and for the most part the body was really straight with the exception of a couple dings here and there which i had no idea how I was going to get them out, until I came across pops a dent thing at autozone and come to find out this thing works miracles I've takin out every dent on the body...Next up is the bed but its in pretty bad shape im pretty sure I'll need a studwelder for that job.

Also do you guys think its a good idea to spay the bed with undercoating before having a bedliner sprayed in? a bodyshop guy recommended it

well when they spray in your liner they strip it down to bare metal. Its like spraying on a thick coat of paint to the bare metal. I think if you were to spray the bed with anything before you get the liner sprayed they might just sand that baby down anyway lol. But I dont know for sure i have just watched a little bit of a bedliner dealer while i was picking up a vehicle for a customer so you might wanna ask a liner guy. im glad to hear ur dents are gone btw grats on that.:nanawrench:

No, do NOT spray anything. You really should have the bed liner done before paint but that's OK. They are going to strip it down completely and spray it which is fine. The best way (which some know this and some do not because they only way they know is how the liner place told them to do it which is by stripping it) is to Epoxy prime the bed first and THEN bed liner. Best thing is to strip the bed to bare metal, epoxy prime and then bed liner. You can strip the bed using a cup brush... http://www.qwikliner.com/images/prep/ARG_0350_500.gif
