I have looked all over the place for a site that cab decode the VIN and the cowl tag, but I am having a hard time. I got the VIN decoded ok, but now I want to do the cowl tag and I am having alot of problems finding info.

Here are the codes from the cowl tag. I will try to space it like it is on the tag.

Any help would be much appreciated. Before I start restoring the car, I want to try to find out as much as possible about the car's background. I want to know the interior and exterior color schemes and all the options it came with. The person I got it from did a crappy job of painting the car, and the interior is pretty rough.

WE recently acquired a 1978 el camino and just wanting to verify VIN number and decipher the cowl tag.

VIN number 1W80U8K541369 --- We just can't figure out the K. Can you assist? We have SS package labeling on car but not sure if original? We are hoping the VIN number can help us out.

Also the cowl tag reads

I listed the number exactly as they appear on the tag. We believe the el camino has been repainted and just wanting to know what the original color was. Thank you Dnelson

Thanks for the info on the cowl tag. When they repainted they repainted black jsut as from the factory.

Black vinyl roof on a 78?? Hmmm.

No we don't have a black vinyl roof. Did not even know the el caminos had that option as I have not seen one.

We have a black on black with the 50/50 seats.
