In November,03 I bought a 71 Custom, factory a/c, tilt wheel, Dark metallic green w/black SS stripes on a Cowl Induction hood, no emblems at all, back up lights moved to bumper like a '68, smooth tail gate, black interior w/bucket seats, and a Vega GT steering wheel. Engine is an '87 or newer 350 (1 pc main seal, center bolt valve covers), Performer intake, Holley spread bore, Summit 1104 cam, Hedman headers, GM HEI ignition, dual exhausts with burned out glass packs, orignal turbo 350 trans w/shift kit, 256 open rear, stock suspension (wore out) w/Monroe air shocks, Firestone Firehawk 235/60x14 tires on chrome American Racing Mags all around.
Now what I did with it since:
Body: dual outside original type mirrors, Tonneau cover(black)
Engine: full (MSD) HEI kit, (Crane) adjustable vacumn advance, (Made For You) Centerbolt plug wire looms.
Exhaust: Magnaflow mufflers w/2 1/2"pipes from headers to mufflers including a balance pipe then 2 1/4" and stainless pencil tips exiting behind rear tires.
Steering: new (Moog) center link, tie rod ends and sleeves, idler arm.
Front suspension: new poly bushings (upper and lower A-frames and sway bar), 2" lowering springs, new A-frame bumpers(upper and lower), new (Moog) upper cross shafts, (1 1/4" sway bar and links (poly also), (KYB) Gas-adjust shocks.
Rear Suspension: New stock height springs, (KYB) Gas-adjust shocks, (Air Lift) air bags to a T fitting located under the tail gate when you open it, 7/8" sway bar, boxed the lower control arms, poly bushings (upper and lower).
Brakes: replaced factory 4 wheel non-power drum brakes with (CPP) front and rear deluxe power disc brake conversion kits (spindles, cross drilled 11'' front, 10" rear rotors, frt bearings, frt backing plates, rear mounting plates, stainless braid hoses, pre-bent hard lines, vacumn booster, dual master cylinder, proportioning valve, calipers including E-brakes on rear), (Russell) speed bleeders, new steel line from proportioning valve to rear hose, new stainless braid hose to rear housing, new E-brake cable from equalizer to rears.
Wheels and Tires: (B.F. Goodrich) 235/60x15 T/A Radials (Raised White Letters) on 15x7 (Cragar) Keystone Klassics on the front, 275/60x15 on 15x8s on the rear.
Interior: Original style (Grant) walnut wood grain steering wheel, original style seat belts, carpeted El Camino logo floor mats.
Rear end: New (Eaton) posi-trac w/3.08 gears, new axles and bearings.
Transmission: new kickdown cable, new speedometer gears to correct for rear gear and tire changes.
That's it so far, I'll post pics when I can. Any questions on how these things were done or what parts were used and where I got them, I'll gladly answer. Any comments (good or bad) are appreciated.
P.S. My husband did supply some help, but most labor was done by yours truly. :D
