Hi guy's I'm about to finish up rebuilding my front suspension and since i have the front end off i would like to begin to prep the fire wall and the hole car for paint but i don't know where to start. I have primed a car before and sanded but don't think i used the right grit sand paper to start and finish. When i got the car in 2000 the car had a nice looking paint job and over time went the car started to show some cracks in the paint and then later pieces of bondo from the rear tailgate and roof came off, two bubbles surfaced, then clear coat was peeling as you can see in the pictures. My question is where do i start as for what grit sand paper to sand the car down and take care of those spots with broken bondo, clear peeling and paint bubbles. I will be going with the same color black witch some tell me is a hard color to paint for a first timer but i would like to prep it right and get a nice looking paint job, any input on this subject would be greatly appreciated, thank you.http://www.elcaminocentral.com/customprofilepics/profilepic11932_11.gifhttp://www.elcaminocentral.com/customprofilepics/profilepic11932_12.gif

I'm sure you will get some feedback on prepping you Elky for paint. However I recommend you go to one of the auto parts stores and see what manuals they have on the subject. I believe I have seen them in the repair manual racks. You will probably will need to remove all of the bad bondo down to bare metal with a grinder.

Recommend also using epoxy primer and spray any bare metal with it and take any cracking paint down to bare metal. Always finish up with 400 or 600 grit wet sandpaper before sealing and paint color.
