How come it is when I looking at distributers some say for small block, some say for big blocks, and yet others say they fit either?
Which is right, the same or different? interchangeable?

They will physically fit and work. It should be a matter of advance setup.

The exception would be the "tall deck" BBC. The tall deck truck blocks raise the heads just under 1/2" and require a different intake,, in stock form also required a different distributor because of the raised intake. Lot's of intakes now lower the distributor boss and take a standard deck height distributor (which is same as SBC)
