I'm about to install a new Speed Demon on my 1969 350. I have a turbo 350 tranny with a kickdown cable connected to the existing holly linkage. The problem I found is that the Demon Linkage dosen't have a provision for connecting the kickdown cable. What should I do? I can manually down shift to low if I want to jump on it from a slow speed and if I'm on the freeway at 50MPH I can step on it opening the secondarys for acceleration. Or I can try to drill a hole in the ne linkage and hook up the cable but I'm afraid I'll screw it up.

If I were you I would contact Barry Grant and ask them how to connect the kickdown cable. I can't believe that they don't have provisions for the TH350 kickdown cable--the TH350 was probably the most produced auto trans in the world.

When i bought my carb from one of the guys I know he had to attach the bracket below the throttle linkage, i doubt you could weld or bolt that, you might have to have someone professionally do it.. or, if you're feeling adventurous, you might try making a template with the old linkage and milling out a new one with a kickdown that'll attach.. sounds like WAY too much work to me

If I understand Meatball the problem is not mounting the kickdown cable, several companies make brackets for that purpose. I think Meatball is saying there is no provision for connecting the cable end to the Demon carb linkage. Most Holley, Quadrajets and Edelbrock carbs have a stud on the throttle arm to slide the end of the kinkdown cable onto.

There should be a hole in the linkage for installation of a stud to attach the cable to. The stud is available at any auto parts store on one of the hooks where they have all of the small stuff like door handles, clips, interior screws, etc. Probably costs about 2 bucks.

Marpii is correct.
The problem is not mounting the kickdown cable, I have the bracket for that purpose and I can take off the Holley mounting bolt and use it.
The issue is there is no provision for connecting the cable end of the kick down to the Demon carb linkage. I can most likely remove the stud off the Holley Linkage on the throttle arm and once I drill a hole in the demon linkage (assuming I can) I can install the stud and slide the end of the kinkdown cable onto it.
I asked the Demon Tech about why there wasn't any provision for it on thier carb but he didn't reply yet. Maybe because he doesn't know why.
In the end I might just not connect the kickdown and live without it.

ahh, I'm sorry, i misunderstood.

Perhaps you'll consider writing a follow up in the new "product review" section. That is, after you recieve the email from the demon representitive.

just a suggestion

Before you go drilling holes in the throttle lever for the kickdown stud (the metal is very hard, make sure you have a good sharp bit) you have to consider carefully where to put the stud so that the kickdown cable gets enough but not too much travel. And Meatball for safety and other reasons you shouldn't forego the kickdown function.

Good advise. I might just have my mechanic install the carb and figure out the kickdown attachment. I talked to him already and he's not a fan of disconnecting the kickdown either so I hope he can fix it. I will post the results to this string when all is done.
Thanks again....

I heard back from the Barry Grant Tech Rep and he said that the kick down cable can be attached to the bottom stud hole on the Carb linkage. I guess it might work but it seems really tight and one end of the linkage spring is currently attached in that hole. Maybe it's a big enough hole to install the post as well. I'll just have to try. :?

The kick down cable is adjustable all you do to adjust the cable is squeeze the metal retainer on big plastic end that goes into the bracket, and get someone to hold the gas pedal to the floor. then release the retainer and it should be adjusted.any shop manual will describe how to do it.

Thanks, that sounds easy. I was wondering how to adjust it.
