I want to insulate the cab of my son's '72. Want both sound and heat/cold protection. He is also installing a pretty hefty subwoofer so harmonic dampening would be good. Interested in folks experience with various products; if doing headliner, doors or hood makes a big difference; and how much was required to complete the job. Looking at Dynamat, B-Quite, QuiteCar, FatMat etc. Links/ pictures of your project welcomed! Thanks, Dave

I've just started this on my 5th gen. I'm putting Dynamat Extreme on the floor board and the A & B pillars, then B-quite in the rear storage area, inner and outer door panels, roof and any other place I think it will help. I have the floor board done but only have a picture from about half way.

Poltergeist,

Appreciate the info and picture. Why did you go with Dynamat for part of the project and B-Quite for the rest? Thx, Dave

is what I used in my 76 Elky and is what I am using in my 80 Elky. The black pad is sound and vibration deadening it has a sticky backing so you don't have to buy extra glue. It comes in large sheets for large areas and smaller sheets 12 x 12" for smaller areas and cuts easy.

I used a propane torch to mold it to the contours of the floor boards. The second bunch is padding (Jute) with a heat barrier. I got some aluminum Duct tape at Home depot to use with it. Completely covered the inside of the cab with the Black stuff and the floor and firewall, cab wall with the padding / heat shield. Its pretty quiet inside the 76 even with my Flowmasters screaming at me. 8)

I was able to get a good deal on one box of of Dynamat & it was just a little (not much but every bit helps) thinner then the B-Quite. I thought it might make the difference when the carpet went in also. If I had not gotten the one box at that price I was going to do it all in B-Quite. They have a good price and at many temperature ranges they claim to have better sound deadning quality then the Dynamat.

A friend of mine used Dynamat in his truck with good results.

always have been a huge fan of dynamat even with the price  , until a recent trip to home depot when i ran across a material called water and ice shield used in roofing. It has all the same properties as the dynamat original without the price tag a 4x100 8) foot roll was $45 two years ago when i did my el camino.
