If you have a type 2 carrier ( current gear ratio 3.23 or lower), you will need "Thick" ring gears, or a spacer. By the way 3.73 with a 3 speed auto will scream at highway speeds ( >3000RPM). You can get by with 3.42 nicely. Look over on MontecarloSS.com. They frequently have stock rears ends with 3.42 or 3.73 w/ posi available. They are a direct bolt in, and in my opinion easier to do a complete swap than a rear gear swap. Dinosdad 03-21-2010, 06:08 AM No. The 7.625" rear is a series 3 carrier. It is from an '84 Camaro - Z28. It originally had 3:73 gears, but not the ones that I purchased.Mine are 7.625" Would this posi unit be a series 3? Thanks once again for all your help! If you want I know two guys who do great work around me, but they might be a little far for you to drive. Anyway just to let you know ECC is having another meet in Carlisle pa. This year it will be June 25-27 2010. A good amount of people from the forum meet up there and we have a blast! Also if you do deicde to go please make sure you preregister as NECOA from the drop down menu of clubs.
