: anybody have any bondo??? (not 56k friendly)
dezaster 03-10-2004, 01:57 PM haha! just tore up my carpet and old, decaying, molding .. mat underneath the carpet.. probably for sound deadening?
anyways, i don't think the floor is repairable. it's very soft and i can push holes in it with my thumb. good place to buy floor panels?
also, do they make a gasket for the hidden compartment door in the bed? i think this is the culprit for the flinstone mobile!

Elky77 03-10-2004, 08:53 PM UH, You need new floor boards. Try Original Parts Group, Inc.
1-800-chevelle
1-800-243-8355
This is really common. I had the same problem.
Let us know how it works out.

dezaster 03-10-2004, 10:10 PM damn havin a 73.. everything is so close .. 67-72.. AGH!...
thanks for the link.. checked it out. did you order from them? whats the difference between the 6 piece floorboard set and the 4? is the 4 just missin 2 of the pieces? or are they actually longer? any idea which would hold up better?
Elky77 03-10-2004, 10:37 PM Yea, the 70's are tough to restore. It was a bad economic time and all manufacturers switched to recycled Japaneze steel. The steel has lots of impurities in it and will rust just sitting in the garage. I had a 78 Dodge Power Wagon with a three year truck loan. It rusted throught at the rear wheel wells the month of my last payment.
You want the four panel kit. The six is for a chevelle with a rear seat. I did buy mine from OPGI.
You can also try:
National Parts Depot - 1-800-521-6104. I'm sure they will have a web site. I bought new bed panels from them.
El Camino Parts - www.ecparts.net. I bought many things from them.
Paddock Parts - www.paddockparts.com
They all have catalouges specific you our generation of Chevelle and/or El Camino.
Let us know how it comes out,
Elky77
dezaster 03-11-2004, 05:31 AM yeah, that sudden rust thing is a pain. i brought the car from a 'no humidity' wyoming to a 'overly humid' missouri. then everything started gettin it.. bed, hood, floorboards, quarters, wheels.. you name it. i've never been much of a body man, but there's only one way to learn. thanks for the advice and the sights. i just found a garage that i can work on the elky at. let the fun begin!

ColdBastrd 03-11-2004, 09:25 AM That vent is to recirculate air through the car. Cars with vent windows don't have them, cars without vent windows do. It was touted as 'Astro Ventilation' by GM when it came out in '68. They even put "Astro Ventilation' stickers on the windows of the cars it came with that year.
coollw 03-11-2004, 12:24 PM I have found www.ecparts.net to be the least expensive and best quality of the listed parts wholesalers. OPG has a great catalog, but sometimes their stuff is aftermarket, and doesn't fit right. When it comes to floor panels, it helps if they fit right. That way you don't have to do so much hammering and adjusting to get them in. Good luck with the resto!! :D
dezaster 03-11-2004, 06:34 PM i've found ecparts before.. awesome store... .. need more stuff for a 73 though :-D
right now the main project is tranny and motor pull... probably sometime in the next month...
anybody else feel like a kid lookin throught these online catalogs? man, i have a wishlist that would take up 2 reams of paper!

Huh????? Never heard of that. How does the air get from the doorjamb into the car?
ElkyPete 03-18-2004, 07:56 AM anybody else feel like a kid lookin throught these online catalogs? man, i have a wishlist that would take up 2 reams of paper!
Mine is a Jeg's or Summit catalog and even J.C. Whitney from time to time. I look at that stuff and "want" for a bunch of it. Actually I can spend hours looking around at different places on the Net more than parsing through a paper catalog. I like to look at other rides too, for ideas and see what other people are doing.
My wish list starts with each new project and get whittled down as the project progresses to its end. I keep a "Book or Journal" on each project and update it each time I do something new. It helps me know my original ideas and what I have done and what I have left and where I strayed and why. I take loads of pictures for before and after comparisons.
dezaster 03-18-2004, 03:07 PM i hear ya there.. it's easy to get carried away on stuff. i love lookin at other rides just to catch ideas and such...
i have tons of ideas for the elky right now... and trust me.. i've got a camera that'll see a lot of work. i'm gonna try and get as much documented as possible so i can see the progress
