Donny,
Couldn't find anything on an oval track, but I did find your car in an oval. Check it out.

They used to have "reverse" races in Wisconsin. The race car of choice were the El Camino's and Ranchero's. Funniest racing ever. Sure felt bad for all those crucks.

I remember a blog out here on the website about 2 years ago about a 70ish el Camino owner who built his car for circle track racing in street stock type division from the WA State area. Pics with the blog seem to indicate that the set-up was too loose for this type of racing. I believe that with the proper suspension set up not only would the el Camino be very competitive, but would be a proven winner. Some of these examples are proof not only in circle track racing as for many years the choice of winners cars were Chevelles. This can be noted in not only circle track racing, but also SCCA Type Road Racing, Off Road Racing with Score, & of course Drag Racing. I would tend to research back through a few copies of Circle Track Mag. May have to go back to the 70's archives.

Years back a local here built a 73 ElCamino street stock over a winter. He used the components from his 77 MonteCarlo that was used up tobuild it.
They refused to let him race it because they said it was a truck!
I should note that he initially passed tech inspection (with raised eyebrows) and it was only after he had the fastest car in hot laps did the legality of his racer become an issue.
