I'm sure you mean "remote start". When I was in Wisconsin, a neighbor had a remote start for his carbed pick-up. The problem with carbed engines, is that they "usually" need to be pumped or primed to start when cold, unlike an EFI engine that starts after a couple of rotations of the starter. The neighbor had a method to start his truck, but I don't recall what it was. Hope that helps.:poke:

Pay me enough money, I'll come start your Elko. Heck I'll even drive it around the block and warm it up for you too.:poke:

Maybe if you used an electric fuel pump and wired up some kind of relay with a solenoid to crack the throttle?

remote starters require a deactivation at about 800 rpm the problem with a carb is there is no computer to tell it when to deactivate, you'd need to figure out that problem maby MSD would have a shut down that could be used if your serious give them a call or register on there website and post the ?.. were there a will there is a way.

Remote start is always cool... But isnt it easier to steal a car that way? And then you would still have to start the car up in the morning.. My brother had a remote start for his 73 Caprice but it would never start early in the morning he always had to do that inital start up himself in the morning and it would start remotely for the rest of the day

Isn't that what kids and younger brothers are for?

Complete waste. Tell him he's a fool.

Hmm well maybe engineers will become smarter and come out with an easy kit to install easily on any engine that's cheap and efficient with no problems.. I'm sure anyone would pay around $300-600 for a kit they can install them self that would stop them from waking up extra early to go outside in the cold start there car up, go back inside and wait aimlessly 5 minutes. Then go back out and kick it down and wait another few minutes for the car to be ready.. not only that but all the ac/heat and so forth has to sit for awhile to actually produce enough heat to defog the window or what not.. Who wouldn't want to wake up the right time your suppose to look out your window aim and start your car.. go through the process of getting ready go out to your car and have it warmed up ready to crank the heat and head on the road without stalling...??? If someone came up with an toilet that opens and closes, flushes and sprays your ass clean for lazy ass people they can make this for lazy ass drivers like my self??????!?!?!?:neutral::neutral::neutral::neutral::neut ral::neutral::neutral:

Ya know.... you'd think the older we get, the more and more we'd want something like that, but I have absolutely no use for a remote start. It can get quite cold here in the capital region (January was hovering in the 10's at night, 20s-30s in the day). I don't even have heated seats in my Silverado, yet each morning, I get in, start it up and get moving immediately. No warm up. All I need are some gloves to keep my hands from going numb on the steering wheel and I'm good.

I need to replace the seat cover on the driver's side and I have considered getting seat heater pads installed, but it's one of those "nice to have" items... not a necessity.

In regards to the easy theft part... here in Maryland, it is illegal to leave a car idling unattended (going inside your house is leaving it unattended). This was passed long ago due to a rash of thefts caused by people jumping into cars sitting to warm up. The remote start though doesn't need the key in the ignition, so the steering is still locked and the door would presumably still be locked.

ok tech buffs.... the way a remote start works is that, although the vehicle is running, you still need to put the key in the ignition to place the car into drive, reverse, etc.

If someone jumped into the car thinking they could just take off, upon touching the break pedal the car will immediately shut off.

I usually have to scrape the dam windshield anyway around here in the winter, so the car or truck is warming up while I do the scraping.
The remote start quit working on the wife's Caddy, and I just told her get out a get it running, and scrape the frost off.:smileyb:

If I'm too lazy go out to start my truck, I'm too lazy to work on the Elco, so I'll just watch TV:nanawrench:

Yes it could be done. I've never seen a kit for one though.

You would need a solenoid to mimic you depressing the gas pedal to set the choke and also pump the gas pedal if needed. This could be wired to a momentary output on a remote start control brain controlled by an individual button. Once the car is running and you need to take it off of high idle the same button could be used to kick the idle down.

I think Tennessee has a law about unattended vehicles with the engine running. I was told that they are in the process of repealing that law. If they tryed to enforce it they would surely tick off a lot of Long haul drivers. :dontknow:

dont know about carbed motors---most all of remote starters are tied through computer, safety switch under hood - timer to shut down(if you put keys in back pocket and sit on remote your butt will start the truck).

kansas weather get damn cold-at 4am its really nice to get in warm, frost/ice free windows when your ready to roll at that hour. Wife got remote as x-mas present for my 94 1500--wouldnt do without it.
