Rich & Alan of Car Motorsports (http://www.carmotorsports.com/) have asked for your opinions. They are currently in pre-production of a custom embroidered underhood insulator for the standard 5th generation El Camino hood. For those of you that have cowl hoods, don't worry, that's being discussed as well.

What they would like to know is what would be the most appealing logo, emblem or script that you would like to see available.

Here's the product description:
• Lightweight, waterproof and flame retardant insulator board material (where applicable).
• OEM approved material that is resistant to most chemicals and all automotive fluids. The material has high non-flammability and heat resistant features with a temperature rating of well over 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Precision cut to exactly duplicate the factory insulator pattern including all pre-drilled mounting holes, cutouts (for ram air equipment, vents, and lights), and notches to ensure a PERFECT fit.
• Special extreme heat resistant glue is used to ensure adhesion of embroidered material to the insulation board and remain unaffected from exposure to engine heat.
• New high performance superior quality fastening (mounting) tabs are included to ensure that the hood insulator is securely fastened and stays in place.
• LARGE, exceptional quality embroidery utilizing imported German threads for maximum durability, color, and heat resistance to over 300 degrees.
• Embroidery matches all of our other embroidered products for a seamless, integrated appearance. No mismatched embroidery or logos.

Although this will be a new product for them, general
pricing info (http://www.carmotorsports.com/Underhood%20Insulators.htm) can be found here.

Here is are a couple examples of the newly completed Monte Carlo insulators:

I think the EL Camino SS script (the door decal) would be nice.

I like it, but do I need it? A bit high in price!

looks real nice but there are quite a few things i would rather have for the money.

That is a bit pricy.
I like the '69-70 tailgate emblem with early El Camino script under it.
BTW, GM still sells the factory insulator for around $60-70, if your's is in bad shape.

Comments:

1. Overall appearach is very good
2. Price is too hogh for my blood.
3. They should add a plain "El Camino" scipt to theit basic cataog and offer it on all products. If someone wants an "SS" added they an do that.

Two reasons I wouldn't buy it:

1. It's not molded like the $60 OEM one. It appears to be die cut from a sheet of insulation.
2. It's way too expensive for my wallet. For a little bit more money I can buy another Goodmark cowl hood.

My $.02

Nice touch for anybodies "baby" but the makers need to figure out that the majority of the U.S. is not on SOCAL prices.

yup, price is steep. as for design, I'd like to see the Diablo logo. That or just the outline of a 5th gen elky. that's fairly generic for everyone.

Good looking accessory but I guess it's like women and shoes....nice but do you really need another pair!?

If you are building a show car-its a great product- and the price is reasonable-I would buy one--keep us posted on the outcome!

It would be nice if they bought new ones from GM, then embroidered them. It would probably cost them less, and they could sell it cheaper.

It would be nice if they bought new ones from GM, then embroidered them. Actually they patterend thiers from an OEM insulator. I don't think the OEM material would hold up to the embroidering process...

They could find a way to put a big sticker of some sort on there. That would be pretty cheap.

Personally, Some should be made that dont have the SS symbol on it. I like the Hexagon with the chey symbol in it (like the logo on this site.) At least one should not have the SS symbol, because most El Caminos I see arent ss.

Mine does not have the ss symbol

If they'd do me one with a big GMC for $120, I'd take it.

I kept reading down this script expecting someone to say they've finally come down in price, but no such luck.

For the money, I'd rather spend it on dressing up the engine, 'cause that's where I want people to look.

Nice, but for another 50 bucks I can get a 750 Edelbrock carb...:-), way too pricey for my wallet...:-(

If you want to show your car, this is the one to get. I have one of their kits for my GTO, and it looks great. There is a reason for the price....High Quality. And you cannot beat Rich and Allen's service on anything. Make sure you have some time if you call them, they will talk your ear off. :D
