Although it has been a great truck, I'm thinking about selling my '01 F**D Explorer Sport Trac and finding a low mileage '96 Impala SS. I am just looking for some info. / opinons on them from some of you folks who maybe have or have had one. Thanks in advance.

One of the best cars I've ever driven! 8) My cousin had a '95. I had it up to 121mph, and it got there damn quick. They ride like a dream, and corner quite well for a large car. Theres a ton of aftermarket goodies too 8)

Beautiful cars! Wish they had made a '96 El Camino out of these! My neighbor has a black cherry '96 with only 4K miles on it!! The car is perfect....he won't sell or drive it. :?

next to the 90's camaro, the 94-96 have to be my favorite 90's cars. I looked at getting one a couples years back when I had some money to spend, but I couldn't find one for less than 15,000(for a true SS) but there are plenty of clones that are going for less than 8,000. Heck if I had 5000 I would think about getting a police auction caprice, they have the police interceptor package, so they should have the same performance as the SS.

I've got a black '96.

In '94 they had block out panels over the small rear window to change the window look. In '95 they changed the body to look that way. 94's and 95's all have column shift. In '96 they added a floorshift, tach & gauges. In '96 they went to a OBDII computor, which makes reprogramming a little more expensive. Available in black, green-grey metallic and dark red metallic.

Great on gas and enough room for the family. Hold their value. Mine has 150,000 miles and has a lot left in it. Handle nice. Lots of aftermarket pieces. Lots of internet groups. Stock they run middle to low 15's, and mine with headers, cat back system, K&N, etc. ran a 14.7 @94 best.
It's a keeper unless I found one with less miles.

Tires are expensive (255/50x17), but I run ARE black spoke 15" wheels for the winter and it reduces my Tire $/mile.

Yeah, there very nice! Also, it's been said that they were one of the last muscle cars.
