I,m changing my 84 El Camino from column shift to floor shift. I found a thread in search from Mike P. that says you can leave the column shift linkage hooked up & column will shift. Thread was written while column was out of car & I don`t know if it really worked.
Anyone tried it ? This would allow you to use original neutral safety & backup light switch.
My problem with the idea is I believe you have to lift up on column gear shift lever to get out of park. I want to remove the column shift lever.
I found a thread in search about how to remove the column shift lever, but it doesn`t state whether they were using a n original equipment floor shift or not.
Any suggestions short of going to a floor shift column or changing plan completely & going with a after marker shifter that would include the safety switches ?
I would hate to do either because I have invested a lot of money in original equipment floor shifter & console
