This is a graphic example of why you NEVER get back into the car while pumping gas. She builds up a static charge and the spark occurs when she grounds herself to the nozzle. Women sadly are the leaders in this type of accident because they habitually reenter the car during refueling.

Do we have to wait until next week for the Part 2, the conclusion, when something goes KABOOM?

We are told not to talk on the cell & pump gas. Makes sense.

cell phones do not cause any danger if pumping gas. 'That is a comon myth that has been proven wrong over and over again. Its just a caution of what could happen. Since it is in impossible, perhaps the signs should be taken down.

Static = true
Cell phones = false

Wow! I always thought that the static electric hazard was exaggerated. I wonder if removing the gas nozzle from the filler neck was the right thing to do? It works out that her removing the nozzle probably prevented a more serious incident but it might have been smarter to run like hell when the fire started. I also wonder why there isn't a device to ground the vehicle when you put a nozzle into the filler tube, shouldn't be too hard to engineer although it would require that all auto makers ground the filler neck. Now that I think about it this wouldn't prevent the spark because it was caused by the static electricity on the woman jumping to ground. Other than discharging yourself before touching the gas nozzle there is there anyway to prevent this hazard?

Yes, don't get in and out of your car, and don't wiggle your boobs and satin bra around in your wool sweater.

Yes that would help but it should be taken one step furthur--all women should be required to remove all clothing and stand outside their car while refueling.

Damn that was crazy! Good thing she didn't go up in flames with it. Wow... Good thing in NJ we aren't allowed to pump our own gas... Might be no women left in the state :(

You mean it isn't required already?

dang...that was shocking....she was HOT :lol:

I've sold and installed many a Bedliners , and a couple years ago they started coming with stickers warning about filling gas cans while in the bed of the truck eqipped with a plastic material bedliner because "a spark may occur due to static electricity that would ignite the fuel vapors and cause fire".........
