: Need some feedback for 5th Gen classe

Carlisle people tell me that the 5th Gen class is a bit "heavy," meaning too many cars. I'd like to hear some suggestions on how to break the class in two. We cannot make stock and modified because the other classes don't have that.

Should we suggest:
1978-1981 A-body
1982-1987 G-body

Break it to A and G body, I think.

Stock and modified

Like I said in the OP, we can't do Stock/Modified because none of the other classes are. If they were we'd have 10 classes which would never happen.

A & G body sounds good. Are they saying we have too many cars registered ?

A & G seems the logical choice.

No, he's basing this on last year's turnout. In actuality if we don't get enough pre-registrations they ,ay combine some classes.

Just spoke to him again, looks like this will be the classes:
Gen 1
Gen 2
Gen 3
Gen 4
Gen 5 A
Gen 5 G

Well I am not sure there are a lot of guys bring 78-81 EL Caminos. A lot of the guys last year had the G body El Camino. So we will need to find another way to break it down.

1978 - 1981 El Caminos are A Body
1982 - 1987 El Caminos are G Body
I believe it has to do with the El Camino being swapped over to the Monte Carlo chassis in 1982. However, I also believe in a lot of things........

I've heard that was more of a semantics thing because of the switch of the A body designation to FWD like the Chevy Celebrity and Pontiac 6000 in the 82 model year.
The G body was created as a new name for RWD mid-sized cars.

It's funny that the Monte split off since most references I've used have included mid seventies monte carlos in with A-body and there are a lot of parts interchange. Although not body parts.

Well the biggest different is the front of the El Camino's Other then that they are really basically the same. Other then some different features that where not added like a tap player. http://www.elcaminopictures.net/images/el-camino-front1.jpghttp://memimage.cardomain.com/ride_images/2/4147/2521/22866260005_large.jpg

Another option would be SS/Conquista/base.

I think a body and g body 5th gen breakdown is the only way to break it down. thought about it for a while and that is the only thing that works. You can't break it down by GMC or Chevy since they do not require that info so they would not know.Almost everyone who goes to the show has a v8 El Camino and the odds of getting 3 v6 El Camino would be unlikely and still would be lopsided. on classes. Stock and modfied is out so I think A body and g bod 5th gen are the only ways to go!
