Hello everyone,

Im welcoming myself to the board. So welcome me.

Well im 24 i live in Long island NY. Im buying my first ElCamino probably tomorrow. Its good to go and i should be getting it on sunday or monday. Its a 79 the floor pans and lower part of the body is rotting or rusted bad. runs strong and its cheap. Ill have pics once i can.

My past: Ive owned a ford (1966 Ford Fairlane 500 convertible) what can i say i was young and stupid. My car resume does include:
1980 Monte carlo
1972 C-10
1979 Malibu

Right now im driving a 2002 protege5. My uncle owns the dealership and i need a car for alot of driving. 2 1/2 years and 60,000 miles.

Ive wanted an El since i was about 12 or 13. my parents used to make fun of me about it becuase they were like isi t a car or a truck?

which one is it a car or a truck? some things list it as a car some as a truck.

This board looks realyl nice and the people seem to be great. im glad i can be apart of it.

Thanks
Bob

Welcome to ECC/NECOA Bob!

I guess the answer to your question is going to be determined by where you live. According to the state of Rhode Island, the El Camino is considered a truck, and because of that I have to register it with commercial truck plates instead of passenger car plates.

Really you need to register all trucks in RI as commerical? thats wierd. Here in Ny a regular truck you can register it as a passanger vehicle or a commercial if its for business.

Im glad im here. i wouldnt want to be anywhere else except for maybe working on the car/truck. lol

BTW my spelling stinks.

Recently, a new plate class was established here called "Combination". It's sort of a semi-commercial plate. I can either register my Elky as a "Commercial" vehicle or a "Combination" vehicle, but not as a passenger vehicle. I think the real reason for the new plate class was to make available more low numbered plates. Rhode Islanders love their low numbered plates. It's kind of like a status symbol.

I have to pay a extra 1.50 for my plate sticker cause its considered a truck here in NC. I think of it as a sports car with a bed that I haul stuff in. :)
