No such thang as a "Blue Knight"........or I would have or had one.
see member's gallery for pic of Black Knight posted 2/29/04....

The Black Knight was a limited production (under 300 made???) in 1978.
It was basically an SS (Z15)with a Z16 rpo appearance option(decals/chrome trim delete/SS options)...A real Black Knight has a 19u(black upper) and 19L(black lower) paint code with the lower accent paint code deleted(a standard SS model had a lower accent paint stripe on lower body that matched the interior)...

There were Blue "Royal Knight"s produced from the beginning of 1979 which were basically a spin off from the Black Knight. The Royal Knight was available to dealers in any of the standard SS colors...Even green.

There was also a dragster called the Blue Max which was not an El Camino, but was popular in the 70's..

Also...that pic of the Black Knight above may not be an original car...

The Black Knight had a "special" black paint treatment on the grill(my front clip has been replaced but I have what is left of the original) and also had black 1/4 window trim paint treatment...Also, aren't those bed rails choo-choo or conquista or something????

Isn't a Black Knight that's painted blue a Blue Black Knight?

The GM 5th generation bed rails, RPO D73 (P/U Box Side Rails), could be ordered on any 5th gen El Camino, but I've seen them ordered on very few Z15/Z16 Elkys. The Choo Choo's are not factory Z15 cars, and most of the Choo Choo's left Chattanooga with the bed rails option installed. I've also noticed that most Conquista owners ordered the side rails.
Interestingly enough, I have seen the bed rails on the Diablo, the Super Sport (Z15) equivalent of the GMC Caballero.

As stated above by "Black Knight", in 78 the Z16 "Black Knight" option was only offered on black El Caminos. You couldn't get the Z16 option in 78 if your El Camino wasn't black. I believe that's probably why GM decided in 79 to change the option description to "Royal Knight". That way any color Elky could get the Z16 treatment.

So that means in 1979 you could have Black and Blue Knights?

I have a Royal Knight clone. I customed the paint, originally it is supposed to be red with the red decals. I also have an oringinal Royal Knight with the blue paint and blue decals. Unfortunatly it is not much to look at.
