Like my Daddy always said, " Everybody has their own little sack of rocks, long as you don't throw them at me we will get along fine ".
Don't we do this car thing so that we have something not just like everyone else??

I think it would look cool as flat black. It would look maybe something like this and I think it would be cool as anything

It's been done to death. But why are you asking us. It's your vehicle......do what you want with it.

This is just my opinion........but painting a vehicle flat black does not make it a rat rod. Now if you sat it out in a field for another 30 years and let elements run it's course on it than maybe it could qualify as a rat rod. I think one of the main things of a rat rod is that the body is untouched. Once fix any dents, rust or put paint on it......it is no longer a rat rod.

I love the rat rod look, I ratted out my 1976 cb750 ss. I just got my El Camino and am thinking about a paint job down the line, flat black is popular right now, so I would put pin striping in there to give it a finished look, But like the guy's say, just do what YOU like!

I was going to do a flat blue with a bark blue pearl pinstipe down the side of my 86. There is a paint called hotrod flats its made to look like primer but it wont chalk or rub off like primer will.

I've seen lots of trucks in flat black from the 90s, so why not an El Camino. I was thinking of doing it with mine, but I don't know if I really want to just coat on even more paint making an eventual paint job more cause of extra sanding.

Although if you're going to be fine with it for a good long while and will commit to it with some red wheels, pinstriping, etc then go for it. Since it is an SS I'd say spray on or pinstrip out some SS decals and stripes too.

I would want to do them in a gloss black. I think that the way the gloss and the flat finishes interact is really a cool gesture.
